Week Three on the TransAmerica Trail took us through Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and into Colorado. The weather was hot and humid, with several fascinating storms to watch along the way. We collectively decided to move quickly through Oklahoma and avoid the dusty roads through various farm fields to get to the more interesting places in the western desert. We arrived to New Mexico and explored the town of Santa Fe. After two nights, we turned the vehicles north into Colorado and into the Rocky Mountains.
Highlights and photos from week three:
- Amazing campsite at 9200 feet over-looking the valley
- Desert flowers blooming after several days of storms and rain
- Visit and camping at the Mission Wolf sanctuary where we learned quite a bit
- An amazing campsite in Phantom Canyon on the 4th of July
Next… we will continue our trek through the “Shadow of the Rockies” up into Wyoming during week four. Until next time, we are overland bound.
