The 2025 Yellowstone season is officially over. The month of October was a time of transition and end-of-season good-byes. Mid-October saw a marked change in visitor volume, as it quickly tapered from many to few. Temperatures fell rapidly into single digits during the overnights and snow quickly arrived, requiring several road closures over the higher mountain passes. A quiet calm settled over the park as we progressed toward the end of October, a combination of fewer visitors, departure of summer seasonal staff, and the impact of the government shutdown. As the transition continued the remaining staff worked together to shut down the Old Faithful Clinic. EMS calls all but stopped, as the demand for assistance was low. We shared in saying our good-byes, prepared for return to our home towns, and reflected on all the enjoyment we shared together. A special place, shared with remarkable people!
While the season is now over, I have been invited to share my search-and-rescue experiences with the Yale University School of Medicine, Wilderness Medicine Group. The online session is on December 3, 2025 @ 8:30pm ET. Please sign up if you are interested: Yale Wild Med Wednesday
Until my next adventure, I encourage you to take your own trip and to travel well. Thanks so much for following along!
